Finnish Linux User Group FLUG ry organizes a Linux demonstration day in Helsinki at the Old Student House (Vanha ylioppilastalo) on Saturday September 21. The goal of the event is to give everybody a chance to see and try, what Linux is and what you can do with it. Welcome!

The event is free of charge and open from 11 am to 6 pm. Address: Mannerheimintie 3 B, Helsinki.

Lecture program

The keynote speaker in our event will be Alan Cox, well-known Linux kernel developer who lives in Wales and works for Red Hat Software. Alan's talk will start at noon and the title is Free software - myths and truths. The speech will last about an hour and then the audience will have time to ask questions.

Alan's wife Telsa Gwynne also participates in many free software projects. She will not give a talk but you will be able to meet her at the exhibition hall.

We have also many other interesting topics in two parallel lecture tracks, including a panel discussion about the future of Linux and free / open source software in Finnish government services, but all except Alan's talk will be held in Finnish. Program in Finnish.

Exhibition hall

In the exhibition hall you can try out Linux installation and popular software which works on Linux. This is especially aimed for home users who have little experienced in Linux and computing in general, but you can also ask questions from FLUG volunteers about Linux servers and other advanced uses.

There are also some Linux-related companies who will present their products.

Lottery

All visitors have a possibility to participate in free lottery. For prizes we have SuSE Linux and SOT Linux full boxed sets with manuals, SOT Office packages and maybe still some other surprises.

"Linux-tekijä 2002" prize

FLUG will also hand out a prize to a company, organization or individual, who has significantly advanced Linux (or related) development or helped the Linux users in Finland. If you want to make a suggestion who should receive this prize, please send email to Sami Pesonen <sampeson@iki.fi>.
